Opera Fact of the Week
On 24 February 1711, Handel's "Rinaldo" premiered at the Queen's Theatre in London's Haymarket. Handel's first Italian opera for England was a tremendous success, the audience being dazzled by vivid special effects, including a flock of live birds.
